Totally Cool Inc., a Maryland-based food manufacturer, has recalled over 60 ice cream products nationwide due to potential listeria contamination. Brands affected include Hershey's, Friendly's, Chipwich, and Jeni's, with various ice cream types at risk. The Food and Drug Administration has not reported any illnesses yet, but Totally Cool has ceased production and distribution after discovering listeria during FDA testing. Consumers are advised to return recalled products for a refund, with identification labels indicating affected items. Chipwich's parent company, Crave Better Foods LLC, operates a separate production line at Totally Cool's facility, echoing Hershey's decision to halt sales of potentially contaminated products. Listeria can cause severe illness, particularly in vulnerable populations, making proper disposal crucial. With about 1,600 annual listeriosis cases in the U.S., this recall serves as a cautionary reminder of food safety risks during the summer heatwave.
