Ti West's horror franchise, starting with "X," successfully captures the '70s farmhouse-turned-charnel-house vibe of "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre." The film, starring Mia Goth as a killer farm wife, was a step above typical slasher fare but didn't quite transcend the genre. However, the prequel, "Pearl," dives deep into the origins of the character and Mia Goth's stellar performance humanizes the demented slasher. The highly anticipated third installment, "Maxxxine," set in 1985, explores the world of adult film star Maxine Minx, played by Mia Goth. As West pays homage to '80s sexploitation thrillers, he aims to elevate the genre with A ideas. Despite the film's nod to nostalgic exploitation cinema, its moral structure feels traditional and predictable. As West continues to push boundaries, perhaps it's time for him to infuse A ideas into a different caliber of movie.
