Meta is reportedly working on a new high-end headset, internally known as La Jolla, following the suspension of Apple's Vision Pro 2. The Information's report reveals that Meta began development on Quest Pro 2 in November 2023, aiming to enhance resolution for work-related tasks. The headset is said to feature Codec Avatars, a technology that creates photorealistic avatars driven by real-time sensors. Despite progress on Codec Avatars, Meta's CTO mentioned it is still years away from completion. The timeline for La Jolla's release remains uncertain, with speculation that it may not be available anytime soon, as indicated in a leaked roadmap from March 2023. The collaboration with LG on this project and the rumored delays until 2027 add further complexity to Meta's headset roadmap. In contrast, Meta's immediate focus is on launching the lower-end Quest 3S, prioritizing affordability over advanced features.
