Meta Trials Freeform Virtual Screen Placement Feature for Quest Headsets: Vision Pro Comparison

Meta is now testing a new feature for its Quest headsets that allows users to place windows freely, similar to the Apple Vision Pro. While multitasking with multiple windows has been available on Meta's Horizon OS for a few years, it was limited to just three virtual windows in a side-by-side layout. The update brings the Quest 3 closer to Apple's spatial computing in mixed reality mode, although not identical. Users can now freely move up to three 2D app windows around their space, in addition to three docked windows. The windows may only remember their placement to a certain extent and return to default positions upon orientation changes. The update also includes the ability to switch between curved and flat windows, as well as a dimmer for reducing brightness in virtual environments while using 2D apps. Apple's Vision Pro, in comparison, allows users to place windows in various locations and keep them fixed even after removing the headset. This feature allows for a more personalized and immersive experience by integrating virtual windows seamlessly into physical surroundings.
