Microsoft has made a bold move in China, requiring all staff to switch to iPhones as part of a security initiative. This decision comes amid conflicting reports about the Chinese government's stance on iPhones. Employees using Android devices will be provided with an iPhone 15 by September 2024, with collection points being set up across Microsoft's facilities in China and Hong Kong. One of the reasons for the switch is the lack of access to the Google Play Store in mainland China. By switching to iPhones, employees will have access to the Microsoft Authenticator password manager and Identity Pass app through the iOS App Store. Microsoft, which has a significant presence in China with over 6,000 engineers and scientists at its R&D center, has not disclosed the total number of employees in the country. Additionally, the company has reportedly asked some local employees to consider relocating to other countries. Both Microsoft and Apple have remained silent on this decision.
