Microsoft China Purchases iPhones Due to Authentication Issues with Android Devices

Microsoft China is providing its employees with Apple devices instead of Android devices, as Bloomberg reports that Android devices cannot be used for authentication on the software giant's systems. Despite the availability of local Android app stores in China, Microsoft has chosen not to offer its Authenticator and Identity Pass apps there. Instead of porting the apps or utilizing side-loading or private app stores, Microsoft has opted to give its staff Apple devices for this purpose. This move reflects a lack of trust in China's mobile ecosystem, as the country has been accused of unauthorized access to US government email accounts. While Microsoft's decision may have political implications, such as a vote of no confidence in China's technology industry, the company is seemingly willing to take a hard line in the face of local regulations and actions favoring domestic tech products.
