NASCAR Implements New Competition Procedures for Chicago Race

Sports | July 5, 2024, 2:54 p.m.

NASCAR has implemented several changes to competition procedures for the upcoming Chicago street course race, including relocating the choose rule to Turn 9 based on driver feedback from last year. The restart signal will now be given in Turn 5, a shift from Turn 7. The restart zone remains unchanged before Turn 12. Drivers must maintain their position until the frontstretch, where they can then change lanes at a designated line. The 2.2-mile, 12-turn layout remains the same, with multiple spotter locations and familiar logistics. NASCAR's presence at Butler Field will offer entertainment and driver interactions, and ticket holders can access the festival field featuring performances by Keith Urban, The Chainsmokers, the Black Keys, and Lauren Alania. The weekend kicks off on July 5, with on-track action starting on June 6.
