Netflix Eliminating Its Most Affordable Ad-Free Plan for Current Subscribers

Netflix is making changes to its subscription options, phasing out the least-expensive ad-free tier. Existing subscribers in the UK and Canada are being asked to switch plans, with a deadline of July 13 to do so. They can choose from an ad-based tier for $7/month, an ad-free tier for $15.50, or an ad-free 4K plan for $23. This move follows Netflix's announcement earlier this year that it would remove the basic tier for existing subscribers in the second quarter of 2024, starting with the UK and Canada. The company is now implementing these changes, pushing users towards the ad-based plan, which is the cheapest option among major streaming providers. In other news, Netflix is hosting a live hot dog eating contest featuring Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi in September. The streaming service has also added popular shows like Lost and movies like the Back to the Future trilogy to its platform in July 2024.
