Netflix Moving Away from Entry-Level Ad-Free Plan

Netflix is moving forward with its plan to eliminate its cheapest ad-free tier for current subscribers, as seen through notifications on Reddit prompting basic plan users to choose a new subscription option by July 13th. Subscribers currently paying $11.99/month must now select from the $6.99 ad-supported tier, the $15.49 ad-free tier, or the $22.99 ad-free 4K premium plan. Most users receiving these notifications are in Canada or the UK, aligning with Netflix's phased approach to discontinuing the basic tier. Last year, new or returning members in the US, Canada, and the UK were affected by this change. Netflix is not yet revealing details on when existing US subscribers may need to make a switch. The streaming giant is emphasizing its ad-supported plan, which has surpassed 40 million users as of May.
