American Airlines CEO, Robert Isom, is on a mission to “rebuild trust” within the company after a series of incidents involving alleged racial discrimination. In a letter to employees, Isom addressed the removal of eight Black male passengers from a flight, stating that the incident goes against the airline’s values. Three of the passengers have filed a federal lawsuit, claiming they were victims of racial discrimination. Isom outlined steps the airline will take to strengthen diversity and inclusion, including creating an advisory group and reviewing internal reporting processes. He also spoke with the NAACP to address their concerns. NAACP President, Derrick Johnson, praised American’s actions, hoping it will set an example for other corporations. American Airlines has a history of racial discrimination concerns, but Isom is determined to address these issues and build a more inclusive experience for all passengers.
