Despite its weight, the M5 PHEV can accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 190mph with the M Driver’s Package. The vehicle can also operate on electric power alone at speeds of up to 87mph. The M5 runs in hybrid mode, utilizing both internal combustion and electric power based on driver settings. BMW plans to use internally developed batteries and EV motors in future M model EVs.
