WatchOS 11 introduces Live Activities to the Apple Watch, allowing apps to display real-time information directly from the Lock Screen or Dynamic Island. This feature, first seen in iOS 16, is now making its way to the Apple Watch with watchOS 11. Live Activities are described by Apple as a way for apps to provide frequent content and status updates beyond push notifications, ideal for keeping users informed about live events, activities, or tasks.
The Apple Watch will automatically mirror Live Activities from the paired iPhone, making it a seamless experience for users. Live Activities can be accessed in the Smart Stack by rotating the Digital Crown upwards, with the latest activity displayed at the top. Developers can customize Live Activities using APIs provided by Apple in watchOS 11.
The update will be available to the public in the fall, with a developer beta currently accessible and a public beta expected next month. Users must have an Apple Watch Series 6 or later to enjoy the new features brought by watchOS 11.
