Qualcomm plans to introduce a cheaper Snapdragon chip for Windows laptops while significantly increasing the price of the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. The new report from Ming-Chi Kuo reveals that Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 could cost device makers around $190-200, making it 25-30% more expensive than its predecessor due to utilizing TSMC's latest and pricier 3nm process. This move could lead to higher price tags for Android devices powered by the new chip. On the other hand, Qualcomm aims to launch a more affordable chip, codenamed "Canim," with similar AI capabilities as the premium Snapdragon X Elite but at a price suitable for laptops sold as low as $599. While the Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus are already shipping to customers, the new chip is expected to be available by the end of 2025.
