TechCrunch reports that the Google Maps app for iOS and Apple CarPlay now includes a live speedometer feature, previously only available on Android. This addition helps drivers monitor their speed and stay within legal limits while navigating. Upon starting navigation, the speedometer will display the vehicle's speed in miles or kilometers per hour, with the icon changing colors to signal approaching speed limits. Google has confirmed a global rollout of the feature for iOS users, but advises it is for informational purposes only. Drivers are still encouraged to rely on their vehicle's speedometer for accuracy. To activate the speedometer and speed limit notifications in the Google Maps app, users can access their profile, Settings, Navigation, and Driving options. This new feature aims to improve road safety and reduce speeding incidents.
