New Title: 'RCS Messaging Now Live for iOS 18 Beta Users: Apple Listens to Feedback'
Tech & AI | June 26, 2024, 2:24 p.m.
The latest iOS 18 beta 2 update includes a new RCS option in the Settings app for iPhone users, allowing testers to toggle it on and off. While the feature was initially not functional on iPhones, US carriers AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon have now enabled support for RCS, finally allowing testers to use it. This comes after multiple campaigns by Google to push Apple to adopt RCS, with the iPhone maker announcing last year that it would do so by 2024. The RCS functionality requires carriers to manually update their bundles that ship with iOS, but for those using iOS 18 beta 2 with a compatible US carrier, the new RCS toggle should be on by default. This advanced texting feature offers benefits like typing indicators, read receipts, emoji reactions, and more, without the need for third-party apps.
