During China's Dragon Boat Festival holiday weekend, Warner Bros.' Furiosa and A24's Civil War faced a slow start at the box office, overshadowed by local releases. Furiosa, the latest installment in the Mad Max saga to debut in China, opened in sixth place with $3.7 million, while Civil War premiered with just $2.3 million. Despite international success, with Civil War earning $69 million in North America and $114 million globally, both films struggled in the Chinese market. The Garfield Movie slipped to fourth place, earning $5.4 million in its second week. Chinese comedies Be My Friend and Walk the Line dominated the weekend, with the former earning $8.1 million. With industry analysts predicting Furiosa to end its run with $7.5 million and Civil War with $3.7 million, the box office in China faces a 2.2 percent decline year-to-date.
