In a controversial move, vending machines selling ammunition are now being placed in grocery stores in Alabama, Texas, and Oklahoma. The distributor, American Rounds, uses advanced AI technology for customer identification and facial recognition to ensure the buyer's age and identity match. Various firearm calibers are available for purchase, including rifles, shotguns, and handguns. Despite mixed reactions from officials in the states, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has approved the machines as compliant with state and federal laws. However, concerns have been raised about the accessibility of ammunition to potentially irresponsible individuals, leading to the relocation of one machine in Alabama due to low sales. American Rounds plans to expand to more states, with offers already received from California, Florida, and Hawaii. The company aims to set up new dispensers in Texas and Colorado in the coming weeks.
