Grocery store chain Stop & Shop has announced the closure of 32 underperforming stores by the end of the year, including locations in Carlstadt, Ringwood, and 8 other New Jersey sites. Stop & Shop's President, Gordon Reid, stated that the decision was made to create a healthy base for the future growth of the brand. Despite remodeling nearly 200 stores since 2018, CEO JJ Fleeman expressed a need for further improvement. All affected workers will be offered other positions within the company. Walgreens and Big Lots are also closing stores, citing underperformance. Major chains are cutting prices due to inflation, while companies like Red Lobster and Bed Bath & Beyond have filed for bankruptcy in New Jersey.
