OpenAI is making significant moves in the M&A space, adding to its recent acquisition of Rockset with the purchase of video-first collaboration platform Multi. The deal, described as an acqui-hire, will bring most of Multi's team to OpenAI. Multi's CEO, Alexander Embiricos, announced the acquisition and the shutdown of Multi after July 24. The platform, designed for remote teams to collaborate through video chats, offered unique features such as screen sharing for up to 10 people simultaneously. Multi had previously raised $13 million in funding from investors like Greylock and First Round Capital. OpenAI's focus on enterprise solutions is evident in these acquisitions, with the company's revenue expected to exceed $3.4 billion this year. With the success of its AI-powered chatbot platform and recent partnerships with companies like PwC, OpenAI could potentially expand into videoconferencing and remote collaboration in the future.
