Paramount Global recently made the decision to remove online archives from popular websites like ComedyCentral.com, TVLand.com, MTVNews.com, and CMT.com, resulting in the loss of a quarter-century worth of content. The move was part of a broader website strategy to drive fans towards Paramount+ for their favorite shows. This decision has led to outrage among writers, editors, and videographers who were not warned about the changes, causing valuable work to disappear. Michael Alex, who helped launch MTV News in 1996, expressed disappointment over the loss of historical music content. The removal of content, including episodes of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, has sparked backlash from fans. While users can still access Comedy Central shows through their TV provider or Paramount+, the removal of online content has been described as a cultural catastrophe by some critics.
