Last year, Prince Charles revived a tradition of inspecting troops on horseback for his birthday parade, a tradition his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, had given up in 1986. This year, Prince William joined him on horseback alongside other members of the royal family. The parade featured 242 horses, including three elite military horses that had previously run riderless through London but had since recovered. Despite inclement weather, the event concluded with a Royal Air Force flyover. Princess Kate, who had been battling cancer, made a special appearance at the parade, along with her children, who have been out of the public eye in recent months. The ceremony, also known as the King’s Birthday Parade, has been a tradition since 1760 to tribute the monarch and mark their official birthday. Prince Charles' actual birthday is on November 14th.
