The investigative report by Proof News and Wired revealed that tech giants such as NVIDIA, Apple, Salesforce, and Anthropic have been using content from thousands of YouTube videos to train their AI models, despite YouTube's rules against unauthorized harvesting. These companies accessed subtitles from 173,536 videos on 48,000 channels, including reputable sources like Khan Academy, MIT, and The Wall Street Journal, as well as popular creators like MrBeast and PewDiePie. This data was then used to enhance their generative AI technology, highlighting the lengths companies are willing to go to gain a competitive advantage in the AI race.
