Spotify Basic Plan price lowered to $11/month as audiobooks are removed

Spotify has introduced a new Basic plan for US subscribers that maintains the old $11 monthly pricing, but without audiobooks. This tier includes music and podcast content like Premium, but excludes 15 hours of audiobook access, a feature many subscribers may not miss. In response to the price increase for Premium to $12 in July, Spotify introduced the Basic plan, mirroring a similar move in the UK. However, the addition of audiobooks has sparked controversy, with the National Music Publishers' Association accusing Spotify of deceptive practices to boost profits and reduce music royalties. Despite denying any wrongdoing, Spotify has made other cost-cutting moves, such as restructuring its royalty model and laying off thousands of employees. Subscribers can switch to the audiobook-free Basic plan, now available for new sign-ups.
