A major cyber incident at CDK Global, a key software provider for car dealerships in the US, resulted in thousands of dealerships being brought to a standstill on a typically busy holiday. CDK shut down all systems following the incident, causing disruptions in operations such as online appointment scheduling and digital retailing solutions. Many dealerships were forced to resort to paper record-keeping for essential services like oil changes. While some CDK functions started to come back online, others remained down and fully operational services were not restored. Despite the impact on dealerships, Toyota and Subaru reported minimal effects on their operations. The National Automobile Dealers Association is seeking information from CDK to understand the extent of the cyber incident. Investment firm Brookfield Business Partners had agreed to acquire CDK in a $6.4 billion all-cash deal in April 2022.
