Valve has introduced a new native gameplay recording tool on Steam, now available in beta and on Steam Deck. This tool offers continuous recording with background recording or manual recording with a hotkey option. The “Steam Timeline” allows users to mark interesting moments during recording, with developers also able to mark notable moments in their games, currently seen in Dota 2 and Counter-Strike 2. The tool does not record the desktop and allows users to choose which audio channels to include. Clips can be exported to MP4, sent to the Steam mobile app, or shared via a temporary link. Valve assures minimal impact on computer performance, utilizing NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards to reduce performance cost, while using CPU for systems without such cards. Valve plans to introduce more game recording features, including individualized game settings in the future.
