Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco is facing formal charges of sexual abuse and exploitation against a minor in the Dominican Republic. The accusation was presented by Prosecutor Kelmin Duncan and the Attorney General's Office, confirming the investigation that began on July 10, 2023. Initially accused of commercial sexual exploitation and money laundering, Franco now faces a lesser charge of sexual and psychological abuse after evidence was reviewed by a judge. A 600-page document obtained by ESPN reveals interviews with the victim and her family, as well as messages between Franco and the girl. Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association have extended Franco's administrative leave as the criminal case unfolds. MLB is conducting a separate investigation, expected to conclude after the legal process is completed. This troubling situation is still developing as Franco's future remains uncertain.
