Target has officially announced that as of July 15th, they will no longer be accepting personal checks as a form of payment in their stores due to extremely low usage. While the company did not provide a public statement on their website, representatives confirmed this decision citing the declining use of checks for payments. Social media users have expressed confusion and concern over this move, including one user on Reddit whose elderly mother relied on checks to pay at Target for decades. Target is encouraging customers to use alternative payment methods such as Target Circle Cards, cash, debit/credit cards, SNAP/EBT cards, or their buy now, pay later services. With the rise of ACH transfers, which surpassed checks as the highest-value payment method in 2009, Target is aligning their payment options with current trends in non-cash payments.
