The independent Amazon Labor Union, known for organizing the first unionized Amazon warehouse, has joined forces with the Teamsters in a new effort to push Amazon to recognize its unionized U.S. workers. With 5,500 workers represented in Staten Island, N.Y., Amazon has refused to recognize the union for two years, leading to legal challenges and internal issues within the organization. The Teamsters, a massive organization with 1.3 million members, will provide financial and organizational support to help secure better working conditions, wages, breaks, and safety standards for Amazon workers. Teamsters general president Sean O’Brien called Amazon a "corporate bully" and pledged to stand with the Amazon Labor Union in the fight for workers' rights. This collaboration comes as Amazon workers at an air hub in Kentucky and a warehouse in Alabama are also seeking union representation.
