The Amazon Labor Union (ALU) members have voted to affiliate with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters in hopes of finally securing union contracts for Amazon warehouse workers. This move comes after years of resistance from Amazon towards unionization efforts. The Teamsters, a well-established labor union in the US, recently gained support from employees at the Staten Island warehouse, JFK8, making them the first Amazon workers to vote to unionize in 2022. Despite the victory, bargaining with Amazon remains a challenge as the company has objected to the election results and refused to negotiate with the ALU. However, the partnership with the Teamsters will provide JFK8 workers with more resources and support in their fight for better working conditions and a contract. Overall, this affiliation marks a significant step towards strengthening the worker power and gaining better outcomes for Amazon employees.
