An American Airlines flight at San Francisco International Airport was evacuated due to smoke in the cabin, which was later determined to have come from a laptop in a passenger's bag. The situation intensified quickly, with passengers describing a strong burning odor and visible flames below seats. One passenger threw the smoking bag out of the emergency exit door, leading to minor injuries for three individuals during the evacuation. The San Francisco Fire Department confirmed the incident was caused by a battery fire and that the flames were extinguished before their arrival. Some passengers exited the plane using emergency slides while others used the jet bridge. One person was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. The aircraft, an Airbus A321 bound for Miami, was prevented from departing due to the incident.
