In the midst of workplace issues and worker unrest at Tesla's German Gigafactory, the matter of disappearing coffee mugs has become a surprising point of contention for management. Plant manager Andre Thierig expressed frustration over the reported loss of 65,000 coffee cups since production began, threatening to remove cutlery from the break room if the thefts continued. Despite the seriousness of safety and pay concerns raised at a staff meeting, employees seemed to find humor in the situation, with some even applauding. The factory's operational challenges, including safety issues and delays in opening, have further added to the tensions. Criticisms from environmentalists and recent incidents, such as an arson attack on a nearby power mast, have made the situation even more complex. Despite these challenges, a strike remains a last resort option for workers represented by the IG Metall union.
