Optical scanners are slow, inaccurate, and sensitive to moisture and dirt, making them frustrating to use. In contrast, ultrasonic scanners like Qualcomm's 3D Sonic Gen 2 are faster, more reliable, and more secure. The new scanner captures detailed images of fingerprints, making it effective in various conditions. Every Pixel 9 variant will come equipped with the new fingerprint scanner, except for the upcoming Pixel Fold 2, which will retain the sensor on the power button.
