The Next Generation Google Pixel 9 Set to Address Longstanding Issue

Google's upcoming Pixel 9 series is set to receive a major upgrade in the form of a new and improved fingerprint scanner. Android Authority reports that the smartphones will feature the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Gen 2 ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, similar to the one found on Samsung's Galaxy S24 Ultra. This upgrade is much needed, as users have long complained about the poor performance of the current optical fingerprint scanner on Google's devices. Optical scanners are slow, inaccurate, and sensitive to moisture and dirt, making them frustrating to use. In contrast, ultrasonic scanners like Qualcomm's 3D Sonic Gen 2 are faster, more reliable, and more secure. The new scanner captures detailed images of fingerprints, making it effective in various conditions. Every Pixel 9 variant will come equipped with the new fingerprint scanner, except for the upcoming Pixel Fold 2, which will retain the sensor on the power button. Google's event on August 13 is expected to unveil these new devices, so stay tuned for more updates.
