Shell-EDF’s Atlantic Shores South has been approved as the ninth commercial-scale offshore wind farm in the US under the Biden administration. This project, consisting of two wind farms expected to generate up to 2,800 MW of clean energy, is crucial in the fight against climate change and the transition to renewable energy.
Despite President Trump’s intentions to cancel the project if re-elected, President Biden’s administration remains committed to growing the American offshore wind industry. With Governor Phil Murphy’s goal of installing 11 GW of offshore wind in New Jersey by 2040, Atlantic Shores South plays a significant role in achieving this target.
The US Interior Department has already approved over 13 GW of offshore wind during the Biden administration, marking a substantial step towards powering millions of homes with renewable energy. As the industry continues to grow, prioritizing clean energy sources like offshore wind remains essential in building a sustainable future.
