The Shyamalan clan is making waves this year with singer Saleka Shyamalan starring in her father M Night's thriller Trap, while daughter Ishana debuts as a director with The Watchers. The film follows American loner Mina trapped in a mysterious forest with hidden creatures watching her every move. As the story unfolds, questions arise around Mina's past and the true nature of the situation she's in. While the film hints at a twist reminiscent of M Night's work, it falls short with clumsy storytelling and overexplained mythology. Despite some effective moments, the film loses its grip on suspense and descends into hokey horror territory. Dakota Fanning's lackluster performance adds to the film's shortcomings, leaving audiences feeling underwhelmed. Shyamalan's family affair in cinema may be expanding, but The Watchers fails to live up to its potential.
