The number of air travelers passing through U.S. airports reached a new record on Sunday, with the Transportation Security Administration screening nearly 3 million people. This marks a significant increase from the previous record set in May. The TSA is projecting to surpass this milestone again on Friday, as travelers gear up for the July 4 holiday. With the summer expected to be the busiest ever, TSA Administrator David Pekoske anticipates a surge in travel during the Independence Day holiday. Airlines for America predicts a 6.3% increase in air travel this summer compared to last year, highlighting the strong recovery of the travel industry following the impact of the pandemic. Travel continues to rebound, with seven of the 10 busiest days in TSA history occurring in 2021. With more than 32 million people expected to be screened between Thursday and July 8, a 5.4% increase from last year's numbers, the resurgence of air travel is evident.
