AT&T recently disclosed a significant data breach where the call and text message records of almost all of its cellular customers were exposed. The company revealed that customer data was illicitly downloaded from an AT&T workspace on a third-party cloud platform, resulting in records of interactions between May 1 and October 31, 2022 being compromised. In addition to cellular customers, those using mobile virtual network operators and AT&T landline customers are also affected. AT&T reassured customers that sensitive information like Social Security numbers was not included in the breach. However, customers are advised to remain cautious of any suspicious communications and to report any fraudulent activity. AT&T reiterated that they are working with law enforcement to address the breach and will be contacting affected customers directly. Those concerned about their data security can take precautions such as utilizing free credit monitoring and regularly checking their credit reports for any unauthorized activity.
