A significant cyber outage at retail technology and software provider CDK has disrupted automobile dealerships in the United States and Canada, including BMW Group dealers. The outage, now in its second day, has forced CDK to temporarily shut down all systems as it investigates a cyber incident. BMW North America and National Automobile Dealers Association have expressed concerns over customer information protection and are awaiting further details from CDK. The outage has also impacted privately owned dealer Holman's phone system. CDK is actively working to restore its services and assist dealers in resuming operations swiftly. This incident comes after investment firm Brookfield Business Partners acquired CDK in a $6.41 billion cash deal in April 2022, making it the last major publicly traded provider of software to auto dealers and manufacturers.
