Violet Affleck, the 18-year-old daughter of Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, spoke out against Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass’ proposed mask ban at a recent Board of Supervisors meeting. The teen, who described herself as a first-time voter, emphasized the potential harm of such a ban, citing her own experience with a post-viral condition in 2019.
Affleck demanded mask availability, air filtration, and Far-UVC lighting in government facilities, as well as mask mandates at medical facilities. She also called for increased access to free COVID testing and treatment. Affleck argued that mask bans do not keep the community safer but instead hinder vulnerable members from participating in society.
The proposed mask ban in Los Angeles stemmed from a pro-Palestine protest outside a synagogue, with Mayor Bass considering implementing the ban to address concerns of individuals hiding their identity during antisemitic hate crimes. Similar bans have been proposed in New York out of similar safety concerns.
