Despite previous bearish predictions, Evercore ISI is now forecasting a double-digit rally for the S&P 500 Index through the end of 2024 with a year-end target of 6,000, the highest among major equity strategists. Chief equity and quantitative strategist Julian Emanuel cites optimism over a resilient economy, improving corporate earnings, and the end of the Federal Reserve’s tightening cycle as driving forces behind this bullish projection. He also highlights the impact of artificial intelligence on various sectors and a backdrop of slowing inflation, low leverage, and record stimulus supporting consumer spending. Emanuel's updated estimates for the index's earnings in 2024 and 2025 further solidify this positive outlook, with a possibility of the S&P 500 reaching 7,000 by the end of 2025. Despite concerns about elevated valuations, Emanuel believes that price-earnings multiples may remain high for extended periods, signaling continued growth potential for the market.
