WhatsApp has rolled out new updates to enhance the video calling experience on the platform. Users can now share their screens with audio support during video calls, allowing them to watch videos with their contacts in real-time. In addition, WhatsApp has increased the limit for video call participants to up to 32 people across devices, aligning with Apple's FaceTime capabilities. A new speaker spotlight feature has also been introduced, automatically highlighting the participant who is speaking during a video call. Furthermore, WhatsApp parent Meta has introduced the Meta Low Bitrate (MLow) codec to improve call reliability, providing higher audio quality with lower computational complexity. This codec is now available on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger calls. Overall, these updates aim to provide users with a more seamless and enjoyable video calling experience across Meta platforms.
